Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel

On the Big Island of Hawaii, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is upbeat, breezy and dramatic. Sharing 1,839 acres of oceanfront paradise with the legendary Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel opened in 1994.

The hotel is nestled into the bluffs above the number one rated Hapuna Beach in a flowing, contemporary Hawaiian style. All 350 of its guestrooms are ocean-facing that radiate from an open-air lobby that provides sweeping views of the Kohala coastline.

A predominant feature of the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel site is the presence of a series of underground springs. In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains.

The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named "Hapuna" or "Spring of Life" in the Hawaiian language.

Now travelers come to take an early morning walk along the white sands of Hapuna ("Best Beach in America-Condé Nast Traveler"), play a relaxing 18 holes on a course designed by Arnold Palmer/ Ed Seay, feast leisurely on world-class cuisine in any one of six restaurant/lounges, pamper themselves at a state-of-the-art spa and soak in an ocean-side whirlpool. Reciprocal signing privileges at nearby Mauna Kea Beach Hotel double a guests' options.

"My son and I returned last night from our Big Island trip. IT WAS FABULOUS. The Hapuna Prince is so wonderful because of its access to Hapuna Beach, clearly the best beach on the Island. We were originally given a room that seemed like a half mile from the lobby but when we requested a change...they moved us to a great room closer to lobby with a lovely palm tree view. We loved it. The hotel itself is very peaceful and relaxing unlike the Waikoloa area with all the Disney gismos. Sleeping was wonderful as it is very quiet there. As with most Hawaiian resorts, restaurant prices are off the charts. But they have a nice little café to get your morning coffee, pastry, yogurt and hard boiled egg! We also love the roadside stands for fresh papaya and lime. The inroom frig allowed us to stock up for breakfast and lunch food. We visited Waimea, Waipio Valley, Kona, Hilo, Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls and the Hamakua Coast, and searched for Petroglyphys. The little town of Kawaihai is 2 miles from Hapuna where there were two fabulous restaurants a bit more reasonable than the hotel (Island Grille and Café Pesto). Great stop for malasadas on the way to Hilo is a roadside diner called TEX. Another Café Pesto in Hilo had the best pizza I have ever tasted. Hilo farmers market was terrific. 3 large papayas for 2 bucks. Hapuna Prince sold a half papaya for 4.95! Mahalo for the 25 dollar gift as we applied it to a fabulous dinner at the Hapuna’s Coast Grille gorgeous restaurant. My son loved the island especially swimming every day at Hapuna Beach in the warm crystal clear waters. We think your package was terrific pricewise. And despite the lotion explosion in the gift pack you sent...the green bag served us well as a beach bag. Looking forward to more Hawaiian trips... " - Rose Sheifer, Walnut Creek, CA, 2008-03-30
