West Oahu

This is the driest side of the island. This part of Oahu is rural and has beautiful white beaches to explore as well as Hawaiian historical sites. Every winter MaKaha Beach Park, one of Oahu's most famous surf spots, is home to an international surf contest.

In Makaha Valley, there is the Kaneaki Heiau which archaeologists believe first served Lono, God of agriculture and peace.

However, throughout time the site served as an agriculture and war temple. To gain access to the prayer towers, grass huts and altar you must call 808-695-8174. Ko Olina Lagoons is one of Oahu's most picturesque lagoons and is great for snorkeling. Pokai Bay Beach Park is the safest swimming beach on the leeward coast. If you want to observe whales during the season (December - April) then a good spot to watch these magnificent creatures is at Kaena Point.
