"We did enjoy the Big Island because of the volcano. (If that wasn't there, Hilo would not be as interesting...) We hiked out on the lava and there was a little activity while we were there. It really was very awe-inspiring. The kids loved it! I must say, we were really pleasantly surprised - we had a great view of the bay from our hotel rooms at the Hilo Hawaiian, and they really were fine. We read a lot on-line about people who were not happy with the hotels in Hilo. They were not bad at all, and the service was very good. All in all, we really had a great trip! "Our Hawaii journey couldn't have been more fabulous, I mean TRULY extraordinary. We had SUCH a great time. The whole trip spoiled my son rotten and reminded him EXACTLY WHY he must work hard in school so he can afford to do all that on his own some day. (HE actually came up with that thought, bless his heart!) I want to send you a couple of digital pics when my new computer gets here (and I can actually do that).. While in Hawaii we went ziplining - Joyce, it's incredible -- Hawaii's new "high adventure" and WOW what an amazinly fun adventure. I'll send you a couple pics of Luke and I Ziplining. We'll remember it always. Mahalo! Deb and Luke " - Deb Hill, Washington, 2007-04-09
"The Hilo Hawaiian is really the ONLY place to stay when in Hilo. I thought everything about the resort was nice - it is not a five star property, but then again you don't go to Hilo for that. What I like about the Hilo Hawaiian is that it is centrally located so you can visit Volcano National Park, go down to the lava flows in Puna and drive along the Hamakua Coast to see waterfalls. You could spend at least 5 days in Hilo and be busy the entire time - there really is a lot to see and do. We will be back soon!" - Joyce Craddock, Applegate, CA, 2008-05-29
